The City of Obetz will begin its annual hydrant flushing program on Monday, October 19, 2026, with work taking place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on scheduled days.
Hydrant flushing helps ensure that fire hydrants operate properly through inspections, flow testing and preventative maintenance. It also removes accumulated iron and mineral deposits from water lines, helping maintain water quality and a reliable supply for firefighting and everyday use.

What Residents Should Know
During flushing, residents may experience temporarily reduced water pressure or discolored water as mineral deposits are removed from the lines. This discoloration can stain laundry and may cause an unpleasant taste.
To help minimize inconvenience, residents are asked to:
- Avoid washing laundry while flushing is underway in their area and check that the water is clear before resuming.
- Have drinking water available before flushing begins.
- Keep vehicles away from hydrants so crews have clear access.
- If water is discolored after flushing has finished nearby, run a cold-water faucet for approximately five minutes and check whether it clears.
Annual hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining Obetz’s water system. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews complete this work.
