Refuse Collection
If there is a holiday during the week, refuse will be collected on Saturday. Holidays that delay trash pickup:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Any holiday besides the six listed will NOT affect trash pickup. The fee for refuse service is included in your monthly water bill. The fee for refuse collection is $19.76 per month.

Refuse collection is provided by Waste Management Inc. and is picked up on Friday mornings between 5AM – 9AM.

Utility Bills
Utility meters are read on the last day of each month. Bills are typically mailed no later than the sixth business day of the following month and are due by the last day of the month. Each bill includes meter readings and consumption information used to calculate utility charges. A remittance stub is enclosed with each bill and should be returned with payment unless the bill is paid online or through automatic withdrawal.
How Our Water and Sewer Charges Calculated
Water and sewer charges are calculated monthly based on metered consumption. Rates include a minimum monthly base charge in addition to usage charges, with separate rate structures for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The minimum monthly base charge is determined by the size of the water meter. Minimum monthly base charges for the most common meter sizes are listed below and were updated effective March 1, 2025.

Water and sewer usage is measured in thousand gallon increments. Sewer units for billing purposes are derived from the number of water units metered. The rate per thousand gallons of usage is shown below (updated as of March 1, 2025):

Senior Discount Form
Residents who are 65 years of age or older and serve as the head of household may apply for a 10 percent reduction in their monthly refuse service fee. To enroll, applicants must complete the Residential Refuse Discount Form and submit it to the Utilities Department at 4175 Alum Creek Drive.
Trash Guidelines
- Bag all trash before placing it in the cart to deter animals and prevent littering.
- Fill your cart completely, placing the heaviest yard waste bags in first.
- Place carts at least 3 feet apart and 3 feet from obstacles (trees, cars, mailboxes, etc.).
- Position the wheels of the cart against the curb and facing the house.
Bulk Item Collection
The City of Obetz partners with Waste Management to provide bulk refuse pickup services for residents. Residents are encouraged to review the list of acceptable and non-acceptable items using the link below prior to scheduling pickup. All items must be broken down into manageable pieces and securely wrapped, as bulk collection is performed by a single operator.
